The stories are fast-paced and exciting with plenty of humor and some deep insights on how the world works and how people interact with themselves and each other. There are plenty of surprises and twists, even for a person like me who gets bored with things when they are too predictable. When Rod introduces a character, he masterfully lets the reader get to know that character in a way that mimics how we get to know our friends in life. As a result, each character seems as real as can be even in their extraordinary situations. That made these very enjoyable stories for me. I highly recommend this series.

It's a great series!! Everything from humor to intrigue to non stop action, it has it all. I can't wait for the next installment of this quirky family!
I didn't realize that this book repeats the Pennington books I bought as singles . . . I wonder if will let me transfer them to someone who hasn't read them. The series if rather amusing if somewhat excessively sexy. Oddly, it also has a lot of interesting information about America's competitive security agencies and their foibles.
All right. Disclaimer time. It's not great literature. No prizes in the offing. No chance of being compared to Stephen Crane or Kurt Vonnegut. But the Charon Family Series is a wild ride into the land of suspension of disbelief. Oddly, Pennington sprinkles enough truth throughout to keep me interested. This is books 1-3. I've read these and 4. I'm almost finished with 5 which leaves me in a quandary. I've already read the Fourth Awakening, Gathering Darkness, and Chronicles I, II, & III of Fourth Awakening. If Pennington doesn't write another book soon, I may emulate Fire of Myth and Legend.
A trilogy based on twin sister and brother (Fire and Ice), brought up in a world of intrigue, dark secrets, and living on the edge, (especially with a mother who would assassinate anyone without many questions asked), and not knowing who their father was, until they found themselves caught up in the world of national securities. It's fast passed, along with fast cars, fast planes all incorporated in a plot with twists and turns until the very end of the 3rd book.A page turner.
