Storm Volume 1 Make it Rain Greg Pak Victor Ibanez Scott Hepburn Books

Greg Pak gets to the heart of one of the X-Men's all time great leading ladies with a Storm solo series. This two volume series takes place just before Secret Wars and sees Storm through one of the most tumultuous times in recent X-Men history: the death of Wolverine and Storm taking his place as headmistress of the Jean Grey Institute. The series starts off slowly enough with Storm reconnecting to various people from her past including her ex Forge (who is helping farmers in Kenya with their irrigation problems) and her old nemesis Callisto (who is taking in wayward and lost teens in her old morlock base). We also get to see a bit of Storm's fling with Wolverine before the book shifts to the main arc: Logan's death and Storm's attempt to memorialize him by wrapping up his unfinished business. The Death of Wolverine does cast a long shadow over the book, but this is still Storm's series and things take an action packed turn when she tracks down Logan's old friend Yukio and attempts to help her put an end to a cabal of gangs that Wolverine had infiltrated.

Storm Volume 1 Make it Rain Greg Pak Victor Ibanez Scott Hepburn Books Reviews

Love ❤ this comic!
Welcomed addition to my collection of comics.
Glad to see my favorite Marvel character back at it. Story might be a bit slow for non storm fans, but a good read overall.
Storm is an incredible X-Man. She is one of the strongest mutants but this comic does not live up to her greatness. The stories are weak, too formulaic, and feel more like short bits rather than components of a larger story. I hope the story improves but I can say that I had much higher hopes for Storm
Collecting Storm (2014) #1-5

Storm's solo series begins with something manifesto Storm is forced to reflect on the impact she is having on the community after one of her students calls Storm a "sellout." The accusation hits home What good are superpowers if Storm cant help people? In order to remedy the situation, the Storm comics start out as short stories that often have Storm returning to a lot of places and people from her past Storm attempts to rescue subway children from Calisto, she helps Forge build a rain maker machine in Kenya, and finally she helps take care of some of Logan's unfinished business with Yukio.

The short stories in issues collected here are good if not great. Each issue is self contained, and writer Greg Pak delivers a neat narrative each time that centers on doing what is "right" even if it is not the most correct thing to. The collection straddles the Death of Wolverine event. Issue #4 opens with a powerful moment of mourning and grief and is the most memorable of the entire collection. Unfortunately, the following Yukio issues are also the ones that felt the most forced.

Artist Victor Ibanez's artwork is generally good with some remarkable large and full-page panels that are worth lingering on. I love Storm's mohawk-look, and so really enjoyed her time in the spotlight.

Storm's series continues with Storm Volume 2 . I would recommend these stories to fans of the character. The issues don't impact the larger events in the X-Men series, so I wouldn't characterize this series as "required reading." Storm's fans will be rewarded with this book.
It was a daring decision to essentially make Storm's run a series of one-shots. For me, that paid off, as each story tailored itself ideally to Ororo's journey. Pak managed to take a character who's sometimes relegated to a generic "leader" personality and make her complex without diluting what makes her great. I especially appreciate her supporting cast, which primarily comprised women of color.

The art by Ibanez, especially in the first issue, was superb. Subsequent artists varied in quality.
I hadn't heard of this before getting it so had no expectations, but wow so good! The story and writing are five stars easily, old man Logan level, without the alternate future stuff of course. The art varies, but issue 3 or for had some of the best art I've ever seen. Love it!
