This was a fantastic surprise for me and a great new author to add to my reading list! The author has started a wonderful set up to a series without taking away from the individual book's story.

The interactions between Morgan and her friends were fun. They made me really want to know more about them and their world. They felt real, and Morgan's vulnerability made her relatable. Also, Alex seems super sweet, if a bit pushy. I like how Morgan holds her own with him.

The mystery was interesting, and there was enough action to keep the story from getting too slow. There are also some nice beats where we get a look on how poorly Morgan is holding herself together despite how she comes off.

This is a quick & fun read. If you enjoy sarcastic heroines, action, murder mysteries with a dash of romance, then I highly recommend this series! I will definitely keep reading these books.

Hunter Hunted The Spire Chronicles Book 1 edition by Ashley Meira Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Overall I enjoyed the book, but it started to get on my nerves. It felt like I had missed a book or something. Maybe it was intentional, but the world building was very slow going and I still don't have a good idea of how things work. I liked her snarkiness, and inner dialogue and she did admit to being shallow, eventually. Hopefully there will be more details in the next book.
I really liked this book. The main character is snarky and funny, though sometimes the author lays it on a little thick.
The main character was flawed and real. I was annoyed when it looked like there was going to be a cliche love triangle, but that didn't end up happening (whew!).
It's a bit slow to pick up in the beginning and there are a few slow spots in the story where we are getting insights into the main character's thoughts and feelings, but overall the novel is fast-paced.
I liked the first installment of this series. The characters are vivid and interesting. The plot line is also a little different from the average. I was concerned that there might be too many explicit sexual scenes but was pleased that they were more suggestion than blow by blow (pun intended) descriptions. I only gave it four stars because the story was a too be continued with no resolution to the main story line which was who killed the adopted mother of the protagonist and why.
This is an excellent series with a truly awesome lead female character. She's tough, powerful, hilarious, sexy and fun. I haven't liked a character this much in such a long time. The plot is really interesting and I love all the mystery. I also really enjoy all of the side characters and that they are fleshed out and interesting in their own right as well as with the main character, Morgan.
This series is really good and I very much recommend it, especially of those that are fans of Patricia Briggs and Ilona Andrews.
If you're a fan of the Dresden Files, this may be a new series for you. Witch Morgan Maxwell was raised by an "aunt" who was the head of one of the major families. Morgan's father left her with Lady Cassandra when at age four Morgan's mum vanished. She's had nothing to do with her uppity father since he abandoned her. Soon Lady Cass chose Morgan to be her heir due to her inherited talent. We pick up after Morgan has been a part of a major attack. She's at the end of healing from her injuries. She awakens to learn she's now a suspect in this attack even though she was gravely injured. In the midst of being interrogated by a very handsome appointee from the other families, her cousin/foster sister Lily lets out a scream.....aunt Cass is dead! Morgan's other surrogate mum is the spirit of Rowena who resides in a cat. So yes she's a talking cat like in Sabrina the teen witch...except this is the sentient being if a past hunter who chose to go into a cat to continue teaching hunting skills to future witches like Morgan. Between Rowena, Morgan, Lily, Alex (the hottie who initially accused Morgan for the other incident) and Morgan's occasional bed buddy...they're off to try to unravel who had the gall to murder the head of this family. Under it all is another mystery. Morgan has no clue where her mother is, or why when she finally got what looked like a real tip she was smack in the middle of all the death that followed. Coincidence, or was it planned? Not to mention how as a witch sharing happens to heal uber fast. Apparently this shouldn't be the case.....along the way we discover (and so does Morgan) she can do things no witch should be a leader to do. Rowena and Lily seem to know something Morgan does not. Many mysteries reside within this fun series. Lots of tongue in cheek humor, Magic, talking cats, mysteries, romance and more all rolled up into one amazingly fun read. If you love books about urban fantasy, paranormal, romance, and mystery then give this book a chance. I can't wait to see what happens next.
This book transported me to a totally different world and it was a welcome reprieve from the stresses of life, because once I began reading, I just couldn't stop. It drew me into the lives of Morgan and her friends, and I was obsessed in finding out what would happen to them. The humour was also refreshing to me, since it was totally the kind of humour I enjoy. A definitely great read. Kudos to the writer!
This is the 1st book I've read by Ashley Meira and it won't be the last !! I'm definitely going to be reading book 2 of this series. Morgan is a witch extraordinare, whose called home to convalesce after she had been ambushed while looking for clues on her long lost mother. Morgan is set to lead the family in 20 -30 years when the current ruler passes away, instead the Lady is found murdered and Morgan must figure out not only who did it but why. She has an excellent cast of characters to help her out ; Ipso's her demon lover, Alex, the Hunter from another family who had originally come to arrest Morgan for murder , Lily her cousin and Rowan her cat familiar who is actually a grandmother several times removed, whose spirit and knowledge have been encased in a cats body. There is hot sexy love scenes, amazing fights and a small if epic battle at the end. This is a solid 4,5 🌟 read for me. It's got everything you want in a serial book, including unsolved, unresolved things the Heroine needs and wants to know, but no huge cliffhanger.
